Nose

Sweet and aromatic on the nose with sherry, rum raisins and dark dried fruit. Accompanied by brown sugar and spicy notes of cinnamon, polished oak, nutmeg and a touch of tobacco. Walnuts and some dark chocolate in the background.

Palate

Wonderfully sweet on the palate with sherry, brown sugar, raisins soaked in rum and walnuts. Warming and pleasantly spicy with cinnamon, nutmeg and a touch of bitter oak. Delicate notes of walnut and dark chocolate linger towards the finish.

Finish

The finish is of medium length and pleasantly warming with Christmas spices and some ginger. oak and a subtle tobacco note.

With water

After the addition of water a little fresher on the nose with many dried fruits, rum sultanas, hazelnuts and milk chocolate. Lightly spicy oak with cinnamon and increasingly more walnut aromas, accompanied by a hint of coffee. Still sweet and creamy on the palate with brown sugar, sherry and dark fruit, accompanied by cinnamon, nutmeg and oak spice. Only slightly warming and much less spice, with more sticky fruit jam. The finish remains medium long and slightly warming with delicious walnuts, some tobacco leaf, polished oak and dark chocolate.

Comments

Another great, aromatic and multi-layered single grain from Douglas Laing. Delightful notes of matured sherry, rum sultanas and walnuts, in perfect balance with warming Christmas spices. With a few drops of water even creamier with sticky fruit on the palate. You just have to try such excellent, long matured single grain whiskies.
