Colour: Bright gold.
Nose: Incredibly rich on the nose with a clear sherry influence, along with vanilla, toffee, apricots and lingerng citrus fruit. Red dried fruits arrive with gentle milk chocolate and a touch of hazelnut in the back. This is all complemented by roasted almonds and a delicate marzipan note.
Palate: Rich and spicy. Sweet and deliciously fruity with a massive load of spices - oak, pepper, cinnamon and ginger. Nutty aromas and hints of cocoa emerge with gentle vanilla, a whiff of smoke and a briny edge. Very well balanced and rounded.
Finish: A long and spicy finish with a slightly touch of citrus' coming through. Lingering fruity sweetness mingles with caramel, coffee, and chocolate on the tail. Very intriguing.
With water: Clean and fresh on the nose with vanilla, toffee, sherry flavours and a touch of fruitiness. Sweet and creamy on the palate with intense and warm spices - oak, cinnamon and crystallised ginger, with sticky toffee on the tongue. The finish is long, sweet and spicy with a slightly dry touch of cocoa on the tail.
Comments: A lively, rich and full-bodied whisky with an impressive balance of sweet, fruity and spicy flavours. Very enjoyable with a silky texture and a fantastic cocoa signature. This Campbeltown malt nicely illustrates the outstanding and diverse potential of the Springbank distillery. Truly an exceptional dram for the money.
